How to Apply

Disciples applying to the Masters of Divinity degree program at Vanderbilt may also apply for additional scholarship support from the Disciples House with the Scholarship Application downloadable below. Support for Disciple MDiv students is merit-based and awarded for the duration of the degree program, subject to certain requirements for demonstrating satisfactory progress and fitness for ministry, broadly defined.

Disciples in all degree programs of the Divinity School and the Graduate Department of Religion as well as non-Disciples in those programs are welcome to apply to live in the Disciples House using the Housing Application attached. The House is an intentional community of students who share common concern for faith seeking understanding in the Disciple tradition and a commitment to community and justice within an ecumenical academic setting. Thus, it is much more than either a residence hall or an apartment complex.

Housing Application

Disciples House has ten two-room apartments and ten single rooms sharing a bath, with available common kitchen. Rents are significantly below the area where the House is located, close to campus and in one of Nashville’s exciting neighborhoods. Though Disciples receive greater housing support, rent for all residents is subsidized and is well below the norm for this location. Rent includes parking, utilities, limited storage, free use of onsite laundry facilities and the Commons Room, a shared kitchen for single rooms, and community activities. Current rates are available in the application and may be subject to annual revision. Various fees also apply.

Scholarship Application for Disciples

Disciples accepted to the Masters of Divinity program at Vanderbilt Divinity School receive additional scholarship support from the Disciples House. Download and complete the application and submit it with the required essay at the same time as you submit the Vanderbilt admissions materials. Admissions and scholarship award decisions at Disciples House are usually made in March, with notification of awards and offers of housing following by email.

Though VDS accepts applications through the spring, earlier applicants to both institutions generally receive higher scholarships. It is to your advantage to apply early. The final deadline for receipt of a DDH application is April 1 of the year you plan to begin studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School.
