Rev. Kaki Friskics-Warren Chosen as 2017 Alumna of the Year

The Alumnus/a of the Year Award recognizes lifelong service and achievement by a Disciples Divinity House alumna or alumnus. The recipients have been exemplars of varied forms of ministry and service. The Disciples Divinity House at Vanderbilt began giving this award in 2009, and it is given every other year during the General Assembly. The Alumni/ae Selection Team, made up of DDH-VDS graduates who are also board members, receives nominations, selects the recipient, and presents the award.

Rev. Kaki Friskics-Warren is known for her passion as a social justice advocate for those in the prison system, her entrepreneurial spirit and the creative force behind two non-profit para-church ministries in Nashville, Tennessee. She will be honored by the Disciples Divinity House at this year’s General Assembly in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Alumni/ae Council has selected her as the 5th recipient of the Alumnus/a of the Year Award. Criteria considered in making the selection include:

• Significant contribution to church and/or school

• Work that has demonstrated the heritage and commitments of Disciples House and Vanderbilt Divinity School, such as –

        • a reflective faith

        • church, ministry, and academy in partnership

        • community

        • justice

        • faithful, bold, creative and effective work toward building the realm of God in this world.

Ms. Friskics-Warren earned her Masters of Divinity in 1992 from Vanderbilt Divinity School. The Distinguished Alumna Award will be presented on July 11 at the DDH luncheon during the General Assembly. She will respond by video presentation. Tickets are $35 and available online until July 6.
